Program Outline

Volunteer In Beijing

Our international volunteer program enables you to contribute to the people of China.  You will also gain an indepth experience of China, its culture and a fond memory to keep for the rest of your life.

International volunteers may help out in all or any of the following programs:

Orphanage School

The orphanage school has 25 children from 3 to 12 years old.  It was established in 1998 to care for and provide an education for the orphans.  Our international volunteers may Teach English through activities, games or stories.  They may also teach drawing, musical instruments or be a general helping hand.  The orphanage is located in the suburbs close to central Beijing.

Charity for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities

This charity is a local, unique, community-based charity serving the mentally disabled.  It aspires to provide equal opportunities for the mentally disabled, help them contribute to the community, thereby improving their and their families' quality of the life.

Activities are designed to foster the disabled students’ independence.  Daily activities include arts and crafts, music and athletics classes.  Weekly field trips to nearby libraries, youth centres, elderly centres, sports grounds and local markets are organised to integrate the disabled with the community.  The charity also runs workshops to train the disabled students in making a range of arts and crafts items, such as gifts, cards and calendars.  The disabled students gain vocational skills, a sense of self worth as well as wages for their work.  Profits from the sales of these items cover the cost of the materials and the students' payroll.

The charity also runs welcome programs for visitors and tricycle tours in the surrounding old streets of old Beijing better known as Hutongs. These programs are executed by the disabled students and enable them to contribute financially to the charity.  And they do such a great job!

International volunteers are involved in Teaching English, helping out in the crafts making, organising welcome programs for visitors, taking care of the students, and helping out where needed.  Our volunteers work in 2 of the charity's branches, one right next to the Forbidden City and the other is nearby.

The charity is located in traditional 'Hutong' buildings.  The word 'Hutong' comes from the Mongolian word hottog meaning "water well."  During the growth of towns and cities, wells dug by villagers formed the centres of new communities. In Beijing, Hutongs are alleys formed around this as traditional courtyard residences.

Charity for Autistic Children

This charity was founded in 1993 by a parent of an autistic child and is China’s first non-governmental educational organization for autistic children. The vision is to provide these children with equal opportunities for development and a normal life.

International volunteers are involved in Teaching English, helping the students with basic activities such as reading, writing, eating, playing, taking care of students and helping out where needed. The charity is located in the suburbs of Beijing about 30 minutes from the accommodation where volunteers stay.
