Program Outline

Teach English in rural China. Yushe  is a small town and there are no English speakers so the teachers and children need good English speakers so they can learn and practice English.  You will teach at different schools but if you only want to be at one project, do let us know.

Our international program will give you a chance to make an important contribution to the people of China, and to gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life.

Start Date
Volunteers can work during the spring semester from the beginning of March to the end of July and during the winter semester from the beginning of September to the middle of January.

Volunteer Hours
Our volunteers generally work from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Project

Schools in Yushe, Shanxi

Yushe is a small town. There are two senior middle schools, nine junior middle schools and twelve  primary schools. Children in Yushe start to learn English when they are about ten years old. They  learn easy spoken English in primary school and when they get into middle school they learn lots  of words, grammar and sentence patterns.

Services included in package

Volunteer Coordinator

You will be taken care of by a coordinator based in Beijing, who will be available for support throughout your program. When in Yushe, you will also be put in touch with the local coordinator, who will be available for immediate support.

Airport Transfer

We will meet you at the airport of Beijing and bring you to your accommodation in Beijing where you will spend a night. You will take a one hour flight to Shanxi the next day.

Accommodation

When in Beijing, you will put up in a single room student residence in central Beijing. In Shanxi, you will have a single room in a student residence building in a hotel. There will be TV, air conditioner, internet access, shower and toilet.

Briefing

You will be given an orientation session when in Beijing.

In-country transportation

Daily local transport to and from the schools in Shanxi that you are volunteering will also be provided.
