Dates: 26 - 31 July 2009. About the Chiang Mai orphanage At present, over 80 children and youth live at the Chiang Mai orphanage, with the children coming here for various reasons. The daily basics of the children are taken care of by the permanent staff who are stretched and have little time to spend with the children. International volunteers may work with the younger children in the area of feeding, playing, and with the older children, in their homework. Volunteers can help teach English to the orphans, and offer encouragement to them. Other activities volunteers can participate in include wall painting, helping make handicrafts or making fish farming nets. And even volunteers without a 'green thumb' can help out at the orphanage's organic vegetable farm.
The most important contribution is the encouragement, attention and love that volunteers bring, which could profoundly change the children’s perspective of the world that they are in. |
